Place : Sri Venkateswara Temple
Thiruppaavai is collection of 30 poems written by Goda Devi, considered to be a form of Goddess SriDevi. In this and the other collection written by Her, ‘Nachair thirumozhi’, she expresses her longing for Sri Renganatha (Lord Vishnu) and her wish to be One with HIm.
Koodarai Utsavam is the celebration of the 27th poem in Thiruppavai. Here, She hails Lord Ranganatha as One who wins over people who don’t believe in Him, and asks Him to bestow upon all, who have observed this vratam with the ultimate benefits. She asks that they be showered with choicest blessings after they have observed the fast and gained The Lord’s darshan. Adorned with all ornaments and paraphernalia, She says, having seen the Lord now, She along with the Lord and all devotees will partake in rice cooked with milk (akkaraadisal).
It is practice to offer on this day, 100 servings of akkara adisal and 100 servings of butter, to the Lord, as Sri Ramanuja did on behalf of His sister, Goda Devi.
