Ravi Mayavaram (Teacher for Dharma Classes)

Ravi Mayavaram is an active student of Sanskrit, Tamil, and Vedic Dharma. He has been teaching courses on these topics for the last decade in our central texas region.

Curriculum

 The course “Practical Vedic Dharma” will be offered in the temple. The language of instruction is English and Samskritam will be used as needed.  This course is divided into three streams and the content will include the following topics.

Stream 1: Yoga Darshana and Meditation

  • The complete text of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras
  • Meditation Techniques
  • Karma Theory
  • Key topics from Advaita Vedanta
  • Some topics from Bhagavad Gita

Stream 2: Some Practical Rituals

  • What is Sankalpa?
  • Performing a brief/detailed Sankalpa
  • How to do a simple Pooja?
  • How to do a Tarpana?
  • Shadanga-Sharanagati
  • Manasa Pooja

Stream 3: Vedic Astronomy

  • Nirayana and Sayana systems
  • Sauramana and Chandramana
  • How to compute Panchanga?
  • How to compute Rashi Chart?
  • On computing Divisional Charts
