Of all the paasurams and hymns written for Lord Vishnu, the 30 poems composed by Godha Devi or ANDAL hold a very special place in the Vaishnavite tradition. It is a part of everyday worship routine, in almost all Vishnu temples.

The 24 th hymn, ‘Andru Ivvulagam Alandhanai adi potri’ hails the bravery of Lord Vishnu in His different avatars. ‘As Vamana avatar, you measured, Heaven and earth in two steps, we praise your divine feet;

As dear Rama avatar you went to Lanka and won over Ravana, we praise your braveness and talent; In Krishnavatar you won over the demaon who came as a calf, we praise your strong hands; to protect from torrential rains you lifted the Govardhana mountain, we praise you; We praise the Holy spear (vel) in you hands; we are here to sing your praises, please come out and bless us.’

Today this hymn will be celebrated at the temple. On this day of Dhanurmasa, women together give special Aarati to Lord to remove Drishti with utmost love and devotion. The women who participate in this Utsavam will be blessed with material prosperity, health, and happy married long life.
