Pradosham is the duration of 1-1/2 hours before sunset to about 1 hour after sunset. Pradosha kalam on Trayodasi which is the thirteenth phase of the dark or bright moon, is extremely auspicious for the worship of Lord Shiva. Worship of Shiva during Pradosham is said to dissolve one’s karmic afflictions. Pradosham on a saturday -Shani Pradosham is specifically beneficial  for people afflicted by ‘Sade saathi’ or the seven-and-a-half years of Shani.

The ill effects of planetary alignments of saturn (shani) can be greatly reduced and even negated by the worship of Lord Shiva through Havan, Abishekam (specially thaila abhishekam for Shani with sesame oil) on Shani-Pradosham.
