AADI POORAM – Andal Thirunakshatram. Special Abhishekam at 9 a.m.

The star ‘Pooram’ during the month of Aadi (July 15th – Aug 15th) is celebrated as Andal Jayanthi. To have your name and star included in the sankalpam for the abishekam, register at ANDAL.

Andal is one of the 12 Vaishnavite alwars, who spent their life in praising their Lord, Sriman Narayana. Andal or Godha Devi, is the daughter of Vishnuchitta, who served the Lord in the temple of Srivilliputtur. She grew up making garlands to adorn Her favorite deity, making sure it looked beautiful on Him. She surrendered Him completely. Her devotion grew into passion and said She would take none other than Him as Her companion in life. Andal composed the Tiruppavai, a compilation 30 hymns and the Nachiar Tirumozhi, a compilation of 143 hymns.
Such was Her devotion that Sriman Narayana appeared in Vishnuchittar’s dream and asked to bring Godha Devi to Srirengam, where He would take Her as His bride. When Andal entered the temple, She merged into the Lord.
Her compositions hold a very special place in the daily worship at all Vaishnavite temples.
