Bhagavad Gita Homam at 10 a.m. – Saturday, Dec. 22

Gita Jayanthi is celebrated on Shukla Paksha Ekadasi (eleventh day after the new moon) in the Hindu month of Marghazhi (Dec 17- Jan 13). The priests will perform havan reciting the entire Bhagavad Gita to mark the special day.
Arjuna was in great despair finding himself in a position to fight all people dear to him, Bhishma, Drona, Krupa and many others, in the battlefield of Kurukshtra. He turned to Lord Krishna, his charioteer, for advice. The conversation that happened between God and His devotee, a collection of 700 slokas, is the Bhagavad Gita. It is the word of God Himself. During the course of the conversation, Arjuna realizes that his duty is to surrender completely to Krishna and to do whatever he is asked to do. This simple philosophy is applicable to all mankind.
The teachings of the Gita are universal. It teaches about the four aspects of life, including Karma, Bhakti, Devotion and Love. The Gita preaches about the ultimate truth, birth and death, result of actions, the eternal soul, liberation and the purpose and goal of human life.
