Dhanurmasam is the period when the Sun transits the Zodiac of sagittarius (Dhanur Rasi).Dhanurmasam falling between December and January is considered the pre- dawn period of the celestials (Devas) -the Brahmamuhurtam. This particular time before the celestial daybreak (marking the end of Dakshinayana and beginning of uttarayana) is considered most auspicious for the worship of the Lord. The shastras decree that we worship and pray during the early hours of the day during this month.
