Deepavali/Diwali: Samuhika Lakshmi Puja at 6:30 p.m., Sun, Nov 12

An important part of Diwali celebrations, especially in the Northern and Western regions of India, is Lakshmi Puja. Legend has it that Goddess Lakshmi arose from the Milky Ocean when it was churned for nectar. She is the Goddess of wealth and prosperity. Lakshmi Puja is performed to welcome the Goddess into the house and get Her blessings for a prosperous and bountiful life, both spiritually and materially. The puja is performed on Diwali day, when Amavasya thithi prevails during the evening time (pradosha kala). Devotees light diyas (lamps) outside their homes to welcome Devi.
At the temple, devotees can perform Lakshmi puja as guided by the priest, on Diwali day.
